Wrap-up for January

And then we are done with January.

It was a month with mixed feelings. It is like the world had gone crazy, news from all around being more and more alarming, worrying and unbelievable. Like a competition, who is the least responsible and more dangerous of them all, except that a lot of action culminates in one single person. I’d like to say “Keep calm and carry on”, but it is the opposite.

On my little personal level, and especially, photographically speaking, the start of the year has actually been quite rewarding. I have managed to stick to most of my photographic projects, Well, there were not that many to start with. The first one is a comforting, reliable, feel good project, “The Black & White 52 project”, meaning one black and white image once a week for the whole year. That is my happy place, I’m sure this project will continue.

The second one “Around the world in 2026” is out of my comfort zone. It is an international collaborative photography project bringing together photographers from across the globe to share everyday life, culture, and place through our own lenses. This project is not about famous landmarks or postcard views. Instead, it’s about the ordinary details that differ from country to country - the things we live with every day, often without noticing, but which say so much about where we call home. Throughout 2026, we’ll explore a new theme each month, designed to give us a genuine glimpse into each other’s countries, cultures, and ways of living. January’s theme is “How we connect”.

Around the world in 2026

This project is initiated and led by Jo Martindale.

And the third one: analogue or film photography. Well, I have not kicked off that one. One has to be true to oneself (in my case, procrastination).
